WYSIWYG takes a modern twist on gender identity. April, a transgendered woman, is so anxious to live her secret life on the World Wide Web that she cannot enjoy the here and now. While feelings and emotions expressed online are real, they remain hidden and elusive in the cold reality of our day to day world; ironically, she does not fully exist in either world and fears she could die without ever having truly lived.
Each character is drawn to the Internet to satisfy an irresistible urge to unleash their alter ego. Mark, a holistic therapist runs the Gender Identity Center where the characters meet for the first time. He uses various techniques to help the group find themselves and become more comfortable with who they really are. The musical is an intensely personal story that creates a pulsing conduit to the issues of self-revelation, love, sex, isolation, alienation and the human comic-drama of interpersonal dilemmas.
